Galvanized Potting Table as Writing Desk

I think the Poly-Tex Galvanized Potting Bench, currently $150 from Northern Tool, would make a neat writing desk in a super modern or industrial home.

At 30" high, it's the same height as the ever-popular West Elm Parsons Desk ($300), so it's the perfect height for sitting and working. The upper shelf would keep books and supplies up and out of the way so that you can spread out -- and, bonus!, it's half the price of a Parsons Desk while being a lot more original, interesting and durable.

We already have a lot of galvanized storage and other industrial items in our house, and you really can have too much of a good thing, so I'm personally on the lookout for an old wooden desk to add some warmth, vintage character and balance to our decor. But that shouldn't stop you from having a shiny metal place to write, especially for the price!

  1. That's a good idea to mix wood and other warmer vintage items with starker things like this desk to balance out a room. Cool find!
