And when I say you, I mean me. Recently I purchased two of these lovelies -- otherwise known as the Access Lighting 2029 Nauticus Bulkhead Outdoor Sconce -- from ATGStores.com for $27 apiece with free shipping.
I bought one each for the laundry room and my walk-in closet, which are side-by-side and have sloped ceilings. While the small, dangling bare bulbs we currently have in there (attractive, no?) haven't whacked anyone on the head just yet, I wanted a flush-mount fixture that will stay out of the way. I think these guys will do the trick nicely. I am pleased with how well they're made and how nice they look in person. Now if we only had a ceiling on which to mount them...

You may have noticed I have a thing for industrial light fixtures -- a fixation, if you will. (Har har.) I will be a little sad when all of our electrical boxes are finally fitted with their fixtures, because for lack of a better social life I truly enjoy browsing online for lighting options. Is that weird? Some home renovator-types can't get enough throw pillows or art prints. For me it's lights. I want them all. Fortunately, my love of industrial and outdoor lighting is also fairly economical, and they also tend to be more substantial than their indoor-only peers. Win-win, I say.
Check out my outdoor/industrial lighting collection so far:
In addition to the new purchase, we have a total of three of the Portfolio Outdoor Wall Lights (far left; $25 each at Lowe's) lighting our home's front and rear entrances. We have one of these Hampton Bay Outdoor Cottage Lanterns (center; $35 each at Home Depot) over each vanity in the guest bathroom. We have two industrial wire cage pendants (right; free, salvaged from a school renovation) over the kitchen work table, and we plan to put two more over the dining room table.
And I still have to buy lighting for the master bedroom and bathroom, the powder room and our office nook. Lucky me!
Note: Nobody paid, gave, incentivized or promised me anything for writing this post. I just have an industrial light obsession.

ReplyDeleteI really like the windows in both your laundry and closet. We still need a light over the barn door, and I'm partial to the one on the far left.
Hummmm, may I copy you?
Those are fixed pane windows, in case the building code alarms are going off in your mind!
DeleteAnd of course, copy away. My taste does not suit everyone, but I'm happy to inspire someone when I can. :)
I've seen the far left lights above a bathroom vanity somewhere online and LOVED the look. Lighting is one area where Jon and I can't seem to agree. I love the more industrial look and he leans either super traditional or very modern. It means our house ends up kind of a hodge podge as we compromise on which space gets what. Oh well, I will live vicariously through you! They all look great! :)
ReplyDeleteLIKE all.
ReplyDeleteI really like the industrial feel of these. Also, I just saw this post and thought of your home! Specifically, the kitchen. http://hookedonhouses.net/2013/03/01/daydreaming-lake-house-love-in-alabama/
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous place. I wish my home looked like that!
DeleteThese nautical lights are awesome. And dug a great piece, too. We still have several closets with the dangling bulb. Not very attractive.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the mix of industrial with vintage........it will be fun to see how the lighting looks. That is something I plan to do in our next new old house.
ReplyDeleteHave you installed any exterior lighting since the outside was painted?
The siding is still not completely painted... sigh... but no, we haven't added any other exterior lighting at this point.
