Taking shape

The husband resumed work on the wall oven cabinet on Saturday. He felt bad about working on it a) because it took time away from playing with Johnnie, and b) she cries at the sound of power tools. Poor kid was born in the wrong house.

Regardless, he's doing a bang-up job and I'm excited because baking is the one culinary activity I can add to this marriage. We're still working on a design for the doors for the top and bottom sections to add some much-needed concealed storage.

So yeah, progress. If you don't find this exciting enough, you could always head over to my other blog and read my riveting essay on bras

    1. Thanks! And yes I am -- I really enjoy baking and can't wait to make our family's favorite "busy day" shortcake. I don't know where the recipe originally came from, but it was my grandma's favorite and I'll share it sometime!

Cabinet up top, cabinet down low and oven in the middle?
I have no experience installing a wall oven. Because I am a Fire Prevention/Building Inspector by trade,(Not residential) my attention is drawn to the combustibles in close proximity to your new oven. A lot of weight is given to "manufactures recommendations", particularly for installation. I'm trying not to say it, but, what have you found out about clearances and so on?
(Again, I don't do residential so I don't know) To me it looks like a heat trap. Be safe.
Oh, and thanks for posting, I've been having withdrawals.

    1. Hi Mel! Yes, the oven goes in the middle square.

I really appreciate your concern, particularly as a fire prevention expert! S did all the research, so I can't answer specifically. I asked him about a need for ventilation and clearance and so on, and he looked at all the recommendations, read the manual and built accordingly. From what I've seen, each wall oven is a little different and it depends on certain features like convection, etc.
