A PEEK INTO THE NURSERY

I never did a "nursery reveal" or whatever it is that bloggers do when they have a baby and decorate his or her room, but for posterity's sake here's another little peek of Johnnie's current digs (sans instagram filter for a change). Johnnie's room has changed in configuration half a dozen times in the past 16 months. In the early days we slept in her room to accommodate her endless nighttime nursing needs; later we moved her pack 'n play out and moved the crib in, swapping everything around in the process. It is an ever-evolving space, and that has worked for us. Flexibility is key when your house and life are flipped upside down during a major renovation. Though it's not finished down to the detail, Ez and I both agree it's our favorite room. It just feels good in there. Serene, sweet and clean (at least until she empties her crate of books onto the floor.)

One of my favorite things about Johnnie's room is her crib. I don't know if I captured it well in these photos, but it is just the most peaceful little spot. Thankfully, these days, she sleeps quite well there. For that reason alone, I wouldn't change a thing.

An item list, for those who are interested:

  2. i think it's good to be flexible and sometimes the best way to figure out how a room works best is to live with it and change it as you go. I feel that way about houses in general. i'm always moving my furniture around. Drives my husband crazy, but he always loves it in the end. :)
we're looking at an IKEA crib, too. mostly because i want something extremely simple and it seems that either comes with IKEA or Dwell and I'm not paying $1000 for a crib. ;)
i am having fun coming up with ideas for the nursery, but mostly focusing on long-term enjoyment. i honestly want it to feel like if i were to take out the crib and put in a guest bed, it would be appropriate. that's been a nice way to view selections for rug, curtains, artwork, etc.
i like the simple nature of Johnnie's nursery. I think it fits your house and your style.

    1. When people ask for baby product advice, I almost always suggest they opt for a cheaper crib. Almost all the pricey ones I looked at were made with the same materials as the cheaper ones, so you're not getting anything more for your money unless you're looking for something very specific.

  3. I love it! And it sounds/looks like it is perfect for her too. We have changed Henry's room around a few times already. And I think we are looking at another change soon to allow more space for moving (ahhhhhh).

I'm sort of obsessed with that knit blanket. It looks so cozy.

    1. She has three, all made by different friends/relatives and in different styles. At first I was hesitant to use them because they are so special, but then I realized that's silly!
