A RARE VIEW

This is not an angle I've shown much (or ever?) on the blog, so, like, feast your eyes on these high quality iPhone pics. This doorway leads from the dining room into the kitchen. To the right of these photos are the stairs leading down into the living room.

I love how you can see the brick fireplace and the old door from this angle. That old door! It's possibly my favorite thing now. At times I've worried the kitchen would turn out to be too weird or too "cold," but I think it's coming together.

We started sanding the floors last night in preparation for stain and finish. (I'm so thankful Johnnie sleeps right through the sound of power tools...) It goes pretty quickly with the giant floor sander we rented, but it's not my favorite job. I keep worrying the sander will leave swirls or visible marks in the wood, which is kind of hard to tell until you actually put the stain on. Thankfully you can always sand those marks by hand, but with like six rooms of flooring to stain, I'd prefer to have as little hand sanding to do as possible!

  1. That is a new view,I like it. Stained wood really warms up a house.
will you match the log color?

    1. Yes, we will match them as closely as possible. There will be some variation but that's OK.

  2. sure didn't take you two anytime to get back to work. After the floors.......is the next goal to do the bedroom and master bath?

    1. Yes, I think so. After the floors are done, the master bedroom only needs some baseboard work (namely, shoe molding and paint). Oh, and a new bed. The bathroom needs the same baseboard work, plus some shelving. That's it! We will not wait until we get a tub to start using it. At the same time, the dining room is so close too! All we need are chairs and we can start using it! It won't be decorated, but that's OK. Aside from finishing the floors, each room really just needs a Saturday's worth of effort until we can officially use it. Woohoo!

    1. Thank you. It has been a tough season and we haven't had much real down time. I think we have forgotten how to relax and have fun, so we need to work on that! We've had a ton of help though. My parents came down several weekends in a row to help with the house and with Johnnie. Otherwise, we would not have accomplished nearly as much. Not even close! So thankful for them.

    2. Also, while demanding in other ways, two-year-old Johnnie is way more easygoing than baby Johnnie was! I can get a lot more done these days with much less hassle for sure! Hang in there. :)
