1. This winter been much colder and snowier than the past few. Last week, during a particularly blustery night, our main heat pump decided to lock itself out (or some terminology like that) and the indoor temperature started plummeting. Of course, Ez was three time zones away, and the owner's manual for our thermostat was less than helpful about explaining what its various flashing warning lights were all about. So, at midnight on Tuesday, I was wrapped in a blanket, googling for answers, texting Ez, flipping breakers and shaking my head about this darned house all over again. Fortunately, the flipping breakers part seemed to do the trick to reset the heat pump and restore communication to the thermostat, and we haven't had any problems since. We're looking at wind chill temps of minus 15 the next few days, so I'm truly thankful for a warm and cozy place to come home to.
2. I'm also thankful that we've officially signed the papers and closed on the refinance. A new chapter has officially begun, and not a moment too soon, in my opinion! The pace of late has been brutal.
3. See those terrifying icicles of death? Well, soon those won't be an issue, because our gutter man finally came back with a quote (a few hundred dollars lower than the last time we asked him!) and a timeline for completion. Legit gutters don't exactly get the blogosphere all excited, but I'm celebrating a little over here.
4. I'm facing two big adventures in the next two weeks: First, eye surgery this week! I'm looking forward to being able to function without glasses or contacts for the first time in 20 years! Then next week I head to Africa for two weeks. My November trip has been rescheduled, and it's coming quickly. If you're so inclined, please pray for my health and safety, as well as for my family, whom I will miss constantly. Two weeks is nothing compared to military deployment and other long separations, but it's enough to make me anxious and temper my excitement a little.
5. Johnnie went all weekend without an accident in her big girl panties! I'm so proud of her. I'm not declaring her "potty trained" yet, but I'm happy to be seeing the fruits of this exercise in patience. My advice to parents working on potty training: there is a difference between "continual reinforcement" and pushing them too hard. They'll get there when they're ready! (I was silly to think Johnnie could handle this a few months ago.)
That's it for now. What's new with you?
1] No idea what caused your H/P to stop? How odd.
ReplyDelete2] Now it's deco deco deco! Have fun.
3] We have those, often hanging from our metal porch roof.
4] Ouch, I'm not at all sure I could ever do that to my eyes. Consider yourself covered with prayer.
(He'll never leave you nor forsake you)
5] Potty training: Youngest daughter was a one day event. No oops, no leaks, no mess..... ever.
My boys on the other hand, did not want to do it. (Why should I do it when you and mom will clean the mess for me?) I found out years later, my oldest son had told a story about a toilet monster, causing my youngest son must displeasure while pooping!
You guys are the best.
